Food safety
Food contaminants, food additives, maximum levels
Food safety is a top priority issue in Europe. Food additives and packaging materials are assessed regarding their safe use in the food industry and maximum levels are derived for contaminants to ensure safety for health.
On behalf of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), FoBiG investigated the methods, which are used to derive maximum levels for environmental contaminants in food (German with English summary). Also, means to assess carcinogenic contaminants like arsenic (German with English summary) are discussed and improved and transparent methodologies are proposed.
Klaus Schneider was invited to participate in the ”Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee for Food Additives (JECFA)“ and is your contact person for all questions related to food safety.
